For D's Bday, which isn't until 9.22. I wanted to do something really special!!! Because he is such a sweetie and totally deserves it (this am he made me breakfast in bed, blueberry waffles from a waffle iron-not the toaster!!!). As big of a Yankees fan as he is, he has never been to the Yankee Stadium. After 85 years the stadium will be torn down at the end of the '08 season. So two Yankees vs. Red Sox Tickets for 8.26 at 7pm were born.
Oh yeah, and a flight to NYC with a 2 nite stay at the Hotel Belleclaire. On Tuesday we flew in & headed straight to the nearest pizzeria per D's statement "there is no good food in Ohio," we had to indulge immediately We decided to do a tour of the city that would cram alot of touristy stuff in a short amount of time since we only had two days. Five hours later we had seen the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Strawberry Fields (a tribute to John Lennon), the Dakota (where Yoko Ono still lives in the apartment she shared with John!!), St. Patricks Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Trinity Church, the Flatiron Building, Times Square, Wall Street, Ground Zero...hmmmm & I am sure more that is escaping me at the moment.
Yes, we were the nerdy tourists following our tour guide who held a H2O bottle over his head so we could follow him like lost school children thru the bustling streets. Just that day made me realize...I love NYC!!!! I wish I could move there for a year or so, so I wouldn't be all clumsy & awkward moving about the city. I imagine myself a savvy New Yorker knowing all the secrets of the city. The key word being Imagine!!! So Wednesday before the game we hit Little Italy (you walk thru crazy Chinatown to get there.) Rolex, Gucci, Coach, Armani, anyone???? We ate, and ate and ate..pasta, pizza, cannolis, gelatto. We were in heaven & it was hell trying to roll our fat butts back to the subway! So the trip was a success we saw the stadium, navigated the subway system (with only a few detours:), gained 27lbs, bought a losing lottery ticket (we were gna rent a pent house stay for a month if we won) & bought lots of NYC bumper stickers, magnets & post cards.
Signing off as lizbon...wishing I was Carrie Bradshaw & a lottery winner!
