damon & i spent an AWESOME three days (not enuf time!!!) in the Outer Banks at the end of May!! We flew into Norfolk, VA & and drove 2 hours to the banks. Never having been, we spent the whole 3 days getting our bearings & planning our next trip....See babe I'm turning you into a planner already! We arrived at the Ramada Plaza in Nagshead around 5:30pm...It was cold, & gray. We were both bundled in our new Wal-Mart OBX sweatshirts. NO we did not buy the Luke Skywalker Might Mug at the OBX Wal-Mart..Really!!!! Thursday morning it was warm & beautiful..Thank Goodness. We drove south stopping at the Pea Island Nature Preserve, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Bodie Island Lighthouse, & the Roanoke Island Ferry area. We decided we didn't have time to actually take the ferry over b/c at this point we hadn't made it to any of the lighthouses & I was starting to throw a fit..
What had we been doing??? Well we were stopping in EVERY & i mean EVERY gift shop, T-shirt stand, junk store we spotted. damon was determined to buy as many cheesy magnets, bumper stickers, & T-shirts as possible. (ask him about his cannon balls!!!! Being that this was our first trip together this was a surprise to me. It was really cute..really really really. I thought it was sweet he wanted so many mementos from our trip..and hey, who doesn't need 12 lighthouse magnets on their fridge?? So Friday we made up for lost time by getting up at 5:12am..no joke!!! We walked on the beach & got some GORGEOUS pics of the sunrise. We went North to the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kill Devil Hills. I was surprised how much i enjoyed seeing all the aviation artifacts & walking up that giant hill to the memorial. damon tried to make me skip a few times but I held my ground:)
We stopped at Jockey Ridge home of the hang gliding school. The dunes are incredible. The people looked so tiny flying kites & gliding. You can get 5 flights for only $89 & 3 hrs. of your time but they were all booked up for the day...next time FO SHIZZLE!!!!! hahaha BEWARE: The dunes are as sandy & hot as Tatooine & you cannot get H20 unless you have cash!!! Next, we drove to Manteo which is where they perform the Lost Colony reenactment. This is a super quaint little town with lots of shops & cute restaurants. There is a children's history museum that looked fun as well as lots of pirate themed activities, a marina & the Roanoke light house. Saturday morning we headed back towards Norfolk, very sad that we didn't have more time to explore. Thanks to bad weather up & down the east coast our journey home was extended to thirteen hours!! we made it home around 1am (thnx for the ride dave & robin). I used the extended travel time to read 2 smut books...much too damon's dismay!!!!
What a wonderful trip.. The Outer Banks rocked our world. If you go make sure you have a week or two....Oh & make sure you invite us too!!!!
